WUHAN VIRUS DAILY UPDATE FOR APRIL 8
MAGIC 8-BALL SAYS: "REPLY HAZY, TRY AGAIN." The general downward trend appears to have resumed but growth rates of deaths are still higher than they were 3 days ago so it's effectively sideways. Good news is that growth of rates on incidents set a new record low today. There was also a disappointing 141,980 new tests completed yesterday. We should be north of 250k+ per day by now. If there's one thing we need to do to be able to make a correct decision about reopening schools and businesses it's getting random anti-body testing throughout the nation. Disappointed.
Given a total of 2,212,999 total tests completed in America, our new total for incidents is 423,164 (+30,570), up slightly to an increase of 7.79% (a new record low since Mar 19) over the previous day (-0.87% from yesterday). Deaths have totaled 14,495 (+1874) which is an increase of 14.85% (-3.33% rate of growth) over the previous day. Since the peak in Mar 19, rates of growth for incidents has fallen by 43.85% and for deaths has fallen by 28.01%.
You can see from the graph of moving averages and absolute numbers that yesterday's mortality figures were a surprising jump. What we don't yet know is whether that's because there really are a lot of legitimate new deaths coming from outside the hotspots or whether they're simply changing reporting standards to assign wuhan-virus causality to other causes of deaths. We know for a fact that the latter is happening but it's not clear if this has been an ongoing inflation or if they really turned it up this week. If there's ONE THING the CDC should have provided good guidance on, it would have been establishing clear standards of reporting to the states and hospitals about determination of cause of death for wuhan-virus. THEY COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY FAILED. Their primary mission is to provide good data so it can inform good policy. There is simply no justification whatsoever for the CDC to continue existing.
